Hazel brings 35 years of music teaching experience to her workshops, classes and teacher training. She has given countless workshops, master classes and demonstrations in the US, Canada, Nepal, Ecuador, Egypt and Italy. Whether it’s a harmony singing workshop for adults or a Rhythm and Shoes dance workshop for young fiddlers and dancers Hazel brings enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and inspiration to every setting. Below are some of her current workshops available and Hazel loves to collaborate to create new and exciting workshops for schools, education programs, teachers and venues.
Guitar Teaching for private teachers and educators: In this workshop Hazel will share a map of guitar study for students 3 grade through High School. This includes exploring Hazel’s guitar books and exercises and how teachers can create their own. This workshop aligns with the National Music Standards and is a creative journey into guitar playing of all styles.

Clawhammer Banjo in history and practice: The Clawhammer Banjo is a wonderful way to introduce students to music of Appalachia. It also has a rich inclusive history spanning continents and cultures. In this workshop students and or teachers will learn the basics of clawhammer technique, history and songs. Although the workshop/presentation is designed to be an hour it usually ends with the participants playing in an old time jam session so prepare for two hours!

Rhythm and Shoes an exploration of American Dance Styles: The best way to understand musical rhythm and form is to experience it in your body through dance. Hazel has presented this workshop at festivals and as a multi day class. In this experience students/teachers learn how music aligns with specific dance styles and how to accompany dancers. Students will also dance, dance, dance!

Harmony Workshop for Teens & Adults: This popular workshop can be presented in a 2 - 5 hour workshop with a concert at the conclusion or as a weekly class. Students in this class find their voices and experience singing in a group. This is an active class which includes stretching, breathing, mediation, singing and learning songs.

Songwriting for all ages: Hazel has been teaching Songwriting to children and adults for over 35 years. Starting with workshops in Los Angeles to classes and camps all over the country. Hazel’s holistic approach to songwriting gets students expressing themselves through song. Hazel’s songwriting experiences combine well with outdoor activities and have been included at camps in Maine, Orcas Island, Green River Preserve Camp in NC, The Charlotte Children’s Theater and the Cuyahoga National Park Environmental Education Center.

Science Songs Rock: Science Songs Rock is a workshop or weekly class for students in 3rd - 6th grade. In these workshops students explore their science curriculum in a creative way. Students write songs around their science vocabulary and present a concert to their peers at the end. The Science Songs Rock classes have been taught by a team of teachers in Charleston County Schools in Charleston, SC, Bath County Schools in Virginia and Transylvania County Schools in North Carolina.
